Organizations of Central Baptist Church

(In Alphabetical Order)

AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed)  (back to Table of Contents)

2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

AWANA Clubs International is a Bible centered children’s program that began 40 years ago as a way to help kids in downtown Chicago and is now used in churches throughout the world. Its purpose is to teach children about Jesus Christ and to train them in Bible principles so they can enjoy the blessings of a life pleasing to God. AWANA ministers to children who are 3 years of age by August 31st of that year up through 8th grade. The AWANA club is held each Sunday evening, September through April from 5:00 pm to 7:15 pm. There are 4 small groups divided by age: Cubbies are 3yrs – 5 years, Sparks are Kindergarten – 2nd grade, Truth in Training 3rd – 6th graders, and Trek 7th and 8th graders. Each AWANA meeting begins with a whole group “Worship Rally”. After this large group session, clubbers are dismissed to their classrooms in the Education wing of the building. Here, the clubbers participate in handbook time where Bible verses are presented in short sections that each child may complete at his/her own pace. Each week the child is offered an opportunity to share his/her knowledge from the handbook. Awards are given for the child’s successful achievement of sections. The clubbers also participate in game time where they are taught sportsmanship and values in team competition. To help in this organization, please see the AWANA commander for details. All directors are CBC members, but over half the families whose children are involved in this ministry are not members of the church. This is a wonderful community outreach tool. This program has a registration fee and each child will need to purchase a handbook and vest or shirt through the church. Registration can be made through the church office. Adult helpers wear AWANA shirts so parents of the children will be able to recognize them. To learn more about AWANA visit www.awana.org .

Baptist Women and Baptist Young Women  (back to Table of Contents)

Proverbs 31:29-30 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.”

This organization is a division of WMU (Women’s Missionary Union). http://www.wmu.com  Founded in 1888, the Woman's Missionary Union seeks to equip adults, youth, children and preschoolers with mission’s education to become radically involved in the mission of God. Since it’s beginning, WMU has become the largest Protestant mission’s organization for women in the world, with a membership of approximately 1 million. Although originally geared towards women, girls, and preschoolers, both genders are active participants in WMU organizations and ministries today. WMU is an auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention, which means that it acts as a "helper" to the SBC. The auxiliary status also means that WMU is self-governing and self-supporting. The Baptist Women’s Group at Central Baptist Church is for women who are around 50 years old and above and meets on the third Monday of each month September through May. The Baptist Young Women’s Group is for women in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s and meets on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May. Both groups meet at 7:00 pm. in homes of group members. Meetings consist of devotions, prayer time, and fellowship. The purpose of the meetings is to encourage women spiritually, allow women to take part in mission projects, and make others aware of the mission needs around our community and the world. To find out more information go to http://womenonmission.com/mosaic.html.

Bible Studies  (back to Table of Contents)

1 Timothy 4:13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.”

Bible study is done in various forms at Central Baptist Church. Sunday School, Mission organizations and AWANA provide Bible study by age group from birth through 102! (Or beyond!) Bible studies by age group and topic are also organized by the Discipleship Team. These groups meet at various times during the week, but mostly on Sunday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Wednesday evenings. Sign up sheets explaining each study are located on the bulletin board across from the church library. Please sign up for the topic and time of your choice so materials will be available for each person attending the study. Most studies of this type require each participant to purchase a book or study materials on their own through the church.

Building Campaign Fund (back to Table of Contents)

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Jeremiah 29:11  “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

The purpose of this fund is to raise up financial support for the new building. Our stewardship campaign began December 2003, but long before this our church began to plan for our future growth. We are currently (2007) in a $1.6 million building program that consists of an expanded foyer and a multipurpose facility. The Multi-purpose building and foyer were built to allow us to expand and better coordinate many of our current ministries such as: Sunday School, AWANA, WEE school, youth ministry, Upward and special events. As you begin to serve God through the ministries of Central Baptist Church, prayerfully consider how God desires to use you and your unique gifts to meet the needs of the building project. Any individual can pledge support for this project. First, everyone can pray for us as a church to be used by God to further His kingdom through this building project. Secondly, anyone can pledge a monthly amount or make a one-time donation. When God prompts you to begin supporting this project financially, contact the financial secretary to indicate your intent. Pledge cards are available. Growing in the Lord has prompted us as a church to build for now and the future. If you have a vision for the future of this church, you may feel you can help with this organization.

Central Points Groups  (back to Table of Contents)

John 15:12 12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

Acts 2:46 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

This ministry is part of the Evangelism Team. These groups include all members of the church, as well as visitors, and friends that you invite to participate. The purpose of these groups is to make it easier for new people to get to know members who live close to them by inviting them to a small group setting.  Central Points Groups were originally organized by location and proximity of members to others who live close to them. They are informal meetings that encourage fellowship, prayer and a time of devotion. Each group has a leader from the membership of the church. The whole family is encouraged to come to the group meetings in order to foster a time of getting to know everyone in the body of believers that worships at Central Baptist Church. Central Points meetings are mostly organized by location, but may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances like scheduling conflicts. Central Points Family Leaders are asked to open their homes to group meetings in August and/or quarterly as scheduling allows. During August formal Wednesday evening activities are cancelled so this time can be devoted to meeting with your Central Points Group. Some groups take turns meeting in the home of a different member for each meeting. If you do not have a Central Points Group, please contact the church office so you can be given the opportunity to participate in this small group ministry.

Children’s Worship (back to Table of Contents)

Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Children’s Worship takes place in conjunction with the 10:45 am Sunday Morning worship service. This program is offered to children ages 4- 3rd grade, but may include children through 5th grade. Children are asked to bring their Bibles with them when they come to Children’s Worship even if they cannot read. Older children will help younger children use bookmarks to mark verses in the Bible that are discussed during each session. Children receive a small treat for bringing their Bibles. The current Children’s Worship curriculum being used provides each child with a Power Page to take home allowing the children to share what they did with their families. Every 2 months a new team of adults will be leading in the children’s worship program. Look for the Children’s Worship Newsletter D.I.G.S. (Disciples in God’s Service) for any special instructions for the months that follow. Keep this newsletter on the refrigerator so you will know what topics the children are studying each week. Children’s Worship will be held each Sunday of each month EXCEPT the last Sunday. There will be no Children’s Worship on the last Sunday of the month. To attend, children should exit the sanctuary in an orderly fashion prior to the special music before the pastor’s sermon begins. They should exit through the back doors of the auditorium or the side door of the balcony and walk quietly to the Adult 2 Sunday School room located on the second floor of the education space. This is the 4th door down the long hallway at the top of the steps. All children must be picked up by a parent or much older sibling at the end of the morning worship service. We will have one of the teachers at the door of our Children’s Worship room to meet you and to get your child to you. This will help us complete our circle time activity and make sure that each child is with their parent before leaving. This will help keep the children safer and avoid the possibility of someone getting lost trying to find their parents. Currently (2004) we have 2 Children’s worship groups due to the large number of children that we have. They are offered by age. Group 1 is for children age 4 through Kindergarten. Group 2 is for children grades 1st through 5th grade. If you love working with children and think that teaching 6-8 sessions of Children’s Worship once every 6 months fits into your schedule, then this ministry needs your talents and abilities. The purpose of this program is to allow children to hear a bible-based message that is on their level of understanding so that they can grow up in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Deacons  (back to Table of Contents)

1 Timothy 3:8-13 8Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. 9They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. 10They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. 11In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. 12A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. 13Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

The Deacons organization is a group of men led by the pastor and an elected Chairman. This group is broken down into teams consisting of the Evangelist, the Physician, the Encourager, the Helper, and the Carpenter. (Please see the separate “Deacon Ministry Teams List” for further explanations of these groups listed below.) The purpose of these teams is to reach the community, care for emergency needs of people in crisis, encourage inactive members and guide them back into active relationships, to regularly contact members in nursing homes and shut-ins, and to provide a handyman service to senior citizens, single mothers, and others with special needs. They are also responsible for the preparation associated with the Lord’s Supper. This group meets on the last Wednesday of each month, as well as special meetings to deal with church issues. In order to be nominated by the church body, a deacon candidate must be a member in good standing for at least one year. Deacons serve a three-year term. Please see the Church Constitution and By-laws (posted on line at the church website www.centralpoints.org ) for further information on deacon qualifications, responsibilities, and the formal election process.

Central Baptist Church Deacon Ministry Teams

Paul – The Evangelist (Acts 9:20)

The purpose of this team is to reach the community through evangelistic and personal contact. The primary ministry of this team is to visit prospects discovered through the new resident ministry. This team should also cooperate with the Sunday School outreach leaders and the Evangelism Team to help lead the church in visitation efforts.

Luke – The Physician (Colossians 4:14)

The purpose of this team is to care for emergency/crisis needs that arise in the church. This team ministers to those involved in an accident, illness, death, divorce, loss of job, or other trauma by visiting, calling, or writing.

Barnabas – The Encourager (Acts 4:36)

The purpose of this team is to encourage inactive members or those who seem about to become inactive. This team expresses love and concern as they discover the reason for inactivity and make efforts to guide them back into an active relationship with the church.

Samaritan – The Helper (Luke 10:25-37)

The purpose of this team is to make regular contact with members in nursing homes and homebound. This ministry assures our shut-ins are not forgotten and are informed of church activities. This can be done in person, by phone, or postcard.

Jesus – The Carpenter (Philippians 2: 5-7)

The purpose of this team is to provide handyman services to Senior Adults, single mothers, and others with special needs. This team will also be responsible for preparations and clean-up associated with the Lord’s Supper.

Missions  (back to Table of Contents)

Matthew 28:19-20 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

At Central Baptist Church we have a heart for missions. We have a desire to see that the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is spread throughout our community, our state, our country, and the world. Many groups within our church do mission projects that involve reaching out to others. Our mission organizations support this vision on an ongoing, formally organized level that allows all people of the church to be involved. The Baptist Women and Baptist Young Women are a part of this organization that stems from the Women’s Missionary Union. Following are classes that allow our children to grow up seeking to serve Christ through the great commission. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 pm- 7:15 pm. during the months of September through July. There is no signup for children to attend these classes.

Mission Friends1 John 4:8b 8 . . . God is love.

There are three Mission Friends classes at this time. These classes are separated by age:  the three year old class, the four and five year old class, and the kindergarten class for those children who are attending kindergarten during the current school year. In Mission Friends, preschoolers learn about God, His love and how they can become “helpers” here on earth.  Each month, a new missionary is introduced to the group through studying about his or her work and the city or country where they minister.  In class, preschoolers get to sample food, play games and do activities relating to the work of the missionaries.  They also get the opportunity to learn how to participate in mission work through activities and prayer.  The primary objective of Mission Friends is to provide a strong Christian foundation for preschoolers as they learn to develop a lifestyle that is devoted to God’s mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus to a lost world. Teachers in Mission Friends need to have a love of young children and a desire to share God’s love with them as well as a heart for missions.

Girls in Action – (Also known as GA’s) Isaiah 12:4 Give thanks to the Lord. Worship him. Tell the nations what he has done. Announce how honored he is. NirV

There are 2 classes of GA’s for girls: grades 1-3 and grades 4-6. The girls have a group activity; a mission story, and a time to work on scripture memorization. In these classes girls learn how God is at work around the world through missions education. The girls help our community through mission and ministry projects. These classes help the girls develop spiritually and grow up to be missions-minded women.

Royal Ambassadors – (Also known as RA’s) Corinthians 5:20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as through God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

There are 2 classes of RA’s for boys: grades 1-3 and grades 4-6. The boys work on scripture memorization and projects. Sometimes they have recreation outside. The purpose of this organization is to reach boys for Christ and to lead them toward living a mission focused lifestyle through Bible memorization, understanding, and application. These classes help our boys to develop spiritually and grow to be mission minded men.

Nursery – Extended Session
(back to Table of Contents)

Mark 9:37 "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."

The nursery is a special place where we cater to the needs of our youngest members and guests. Our nursery has 3 special rooms that allow young children of similar age levels and abilities to play and learn about God’s love together in a caring nurturing environment. The children are split up into the following areas – The blue room is for our “Blue Angels” also known as the bed babies ( birth through walking); The yellow room is for our “Yellow Ducks” or Younger Toddlers (walking to 18 months); The red room is for our “Red Birds” or Older Toddlers (19 months to 30 months or potty trained). When you enter the nursery area located down the hall from the first floor bathrooms next to the fellowship hall you will be greeted by the check-in table volunteer. This person will check in your child, and escort them to the appropriate class.  While in the nursery they will be cared for by nursery volunteers. Volunteers are always needed to help during the following church related activities: Sundays 7:50 – 9:15 am, 10:25 – 12:15 pm, and 6:10 – 7:30 pm; and Wednesdays at 6:00 – 7:15 pm and 7:10 – 8:00 pm.  Volunteers need to be 16 years or older, unless working with their parent. One nursery policy to remember that will help every child have an enjoyable nursery experience is our “Well Child Policy.”   We want to provide a healthy environment in our church, so for your child’s sake, and in consideration of the other children, we ask that you follow these guidelines: Any child entering any Preschool (Bed Babies through Kindergarten) classroom must have been free from the following symptoms for 24 hours of more:  Fever, Cold/flu, Green or yellow runny nose, Persistent cough, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Discharge in or around the eyes (conjunctivitis/pinkeye), Rashes and skin eruptions, and any contagious diseases. If your child is being treated with antibiotics, he/she should be on the medication for at least 24 hours before coming to the church. Thank you for your attention in this matter.  This will help insure a healthy environment for all of our children.  Remember, we want all of our babies, toddlers and preschoolers to remain healthy and happy. It is important that we take care of these precious children who are our gifts from God and the future of our church.

Nursing Home ministry to Marymount Nursing Care Facility
(back to Table of Contents)

1 Timothy 5:1-2 1Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

Several individuals from Central Baptist Church provide church services for 25-35 residents of Mary Mount Nursing home located here in Eureka. These services have been lead by one of our faithful members for over 30 years. Services are held on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:00 pm. The residents love having this opportunity to worship our Lord where they live. Many of our members are now residents of this care facility and deserve to be honored in this way so they can be spiritually fed through worship, prayer, music and Bible study. If you have a heart for working with our church’s living history, please join those of our fellowship who willingly give of their time and talents to honor our elders and those who have gone before in this community. Help us honor them by providing for them as they provided for us before most of us were a part of the fellowship of believers at Central Baptist Church.

Sunday School
(back to Table of Contents)

2 Timothy 3:16-17 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Sunday School is the small group teaching and outreach arm of the church. It is to serve and support the community that God has commanded we reach out to with His word. Our purpose is to find out how God speaks to us through the Bible and to fellowship with one another. Sunday School is divided into various departments by age: Preschool Department with classes for - bed babies, 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, 4’s & 5’s; Elementary Department with classes for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade; Middle School/High School Department with classes for Middle School boys, Middle School girls, High School Boys, and High School Girls. The Adult classes are co-ed and geared for your stage in life from Adult 1 for college age adults to Adult 7 for Active Senior adults. All adult classes are numbered 1-8. These classes have teachers of varying styles. If you are new to Sunday school, feel free to try a class or two to find one that fits your stage in life. Sunday School classes meet every Sunday from 9:30 -10:30 am. Most classes are held in the main education space of the church. Youth classes are currently held in the youth house. To begin attending Sunday School you can arrive on Sunday morning and find a greeter who can assist you in finding a class suitable to your needs. Greeters are those individuals who are standing just inside the main entrances of the church or near the stairways. They frequently pass out bulletins and are always ready with a smile and a handshake. Simply explain that you are new and would like some assistance in finding a Sunday School class. Anyone can join a Sunday School class by filling out a new membership form provided with the Sunday School records in the class you wish to join. Most classes begin with a short fellowship and prayer time followed by Bible study and discussion. Children’s classes also include play time and craft time. If you are a church member and feel lead to teach, please contact the Sunday School Director. If you are unsure and would like to become a part time substitute, you can experience some of what teaching Sunday School is like. Being a substitute is a wonderful way to help in this ministry.

Wednesday Night Youth Worship Experience
(back to Table of Contents)

Hebrews 4:12 12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The Wednesday Night Youth Worship Rally is also known as E.D.G.E.   E.D.G.E. stands for Enhanced Desire for Growth and Evangelism. This time is for youth grades 6th-12th to worship, study God’s word, and fellowship together. All youth enjoy a devotional time focusing on issues that are important to them, praise, worship, and games. This time is spent lifting up the name of Jesus in worship and praise, getting to know each other and having fun. The purpose of this organization is to encourage teens to be ambassadors for Jesus Christ as they go about the business of growing up to be Godly adults. There is no sign up for this organization. Just come worship together.

Week Day Early Education - WEE School Preschool Program
(back to Table of Contents)

Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

WEE school provides a wide variety of age-appropriate activities within a routine that draws from the curriculum areas of art, math, science, music and movement, large muscle, practical life, social studies, dramatic play, language arts, and manipulative activities.

Our classes are open to any child regardless of race or religious beliefs. The curriculum is appropriately designed to the age group and to the state of development of each individual child. We believe that a child absorbs his concept of God from people, things, and experiences that are a part of his environment. Thus, a love and appreciation for God, Christ, and the things God has made are stressed through appropriate activities.

We promote emotional growth through building self-confidence and a sense of self-worth by allowing choices within limits and building on successful experiences: through a warm, accepting environment for work and play; through encouragement of curiosity and a sense of wonder with emphasis on self-motivation.

We encourage social development through cooperative play, establish a respect for equipment and materials, develop an appreciation for the beauty of God’s world, and develop an awareness that each child is special and made by God.

WEE School provides classes for two different age groups.
